Did you know that even though the term Internet marketing was coined quite some time ago it is still in its infancy?

In fact millions of business owners haven’t taken the leap into online marketing in any way at all.

However it is quickly becoming one of the fastest and most cost effective ways to advertise for businesses big and small, simply because the playing field is somewhat leveled.

With some creativity and a little bit of know how a small business can have a huge impact in their marketplace, that was once only reserved for large companies with massive advertising budgets.

Internet marketing can be used to help you to reach your target market on a much larger scale than ever before, making it possible to advance, improve, and grow your business very quickly.

Understanding what Internet marketing is:

*Current Wikipedia Definition (

“Internet marketing, also known as web marketing, online marketing, web-advertising, or e-marketing, is referred to as the marketing and promoting products or services via the Internet”.

Further more:

“It is considered to be broad in scope because it not only refers to marketing on the Internet, but also includes marketing done via e-mail and wireless media. Digital customer data and electronic customer relationship management (ECRM) systems are also often grouped together under the term internet marketing.”

Bottom Line:

“Internet marketing ties together the creative and technical aspects of the Internet, including design, development, advertising and sales. It also refers to the placement of media along many different stages of the customer engagement cycle through search engine marketing (SEM), search engine optimization (SEO), banner ads on specific websites, email marketing, mobile advertising, and Web 2.0 strategies.”

A solid Internet marketing campaign can help to bring in more prospects, more customers, ignite interest, build brand, drive traffic, increase profits and take your business to new heights.

There are many aspects involved when it comes to learning the art of Internet marketing and it is important to make sure that you are at least familiar with the basics before you move forward.

You’ll want to make sure that you are approaching the powerful tool with the right mindset.

Let’s go over a few basic questions you should consider before you begin:

What are you trying to accomplish?

You need to understand exactly what you are trying to accomplish with Internet marketing before planning your online campaign strategy. Think about your goals: are you trying to increase traffic to your website, increase sales, or simply increase awareness? Your answer to this question will directly influence the types of tactics that you use in your campaign.

What are you trying to say?

You need to make sure that you understand exactly what you are trying to say to your possible consumers and clients through your marketing. Think about what you need people to know after reading your marketing tools. Should they know about the quality of your business, or the success that your business can bring?

Can they save money with your company, or can you offer them something unique?

Whatever your goal may be, your message should be clear and concise.

Who are you talking to?

You need to understand exactly who you are talking to before starting your campaign. Think about your target, their characteristics, and their personality. This will help you to tailor your message to their wants and needs.

What mediums are used by your target market?

You need to understand the tools that your target responds to the most when putting together your campaign. Tactics that your target will not respond to will be a waste; you need to focus on the tactics that will effectively reach your target. While emails may be perfect for some target audiences, search engine optimization may be perfect for others.

What is your budget?

In the end, you need to make sure that you keep your budget in mind. How much money do you have, and how much is the campaign going to cost? You may be able to add tactics to your campaign, or you may need to remove tactics from your campaign. Knowing your budget will help you to understand exactly how far your Internet marketing campaign can go.

By taking the time to consider the answers to all of these questions you will be better able to approach Internet marketing with the proper mindset for success and help you to come up with a list of tactics for your own Internet marketing campaign.

Chances are that you’ve taken to your computer or smartphone more than once to search for a specific local business, only to find no listings or an unhelpful small blurb on a directory site. While it may be hard to believe, there are still millions of offline (brick and mortar) businesses that haven’t made the leap online in any way.

Bottom line, without a website your business will have no presence online and by not having at least some presence online you can be missing out on potential customers, profits and the opportunity to build lasting business relationships. It’s not all just about keeping up with all the other local businesses.

Online Visibility

Consistent visibility is extremely important, even if your local business is offline, the majority of your customers are online and actively seeking products and services to purchase. By only being visible to customers that drive by or walk down the street you are virtually invisible to the rest of the world.

Did you know that in 2011, there were 835 million smartphone users alone?

That number is literally guaranteed to increase as new technologies are developed and made more affordable and that’s not to mention the millions of other people who spend a huge amount of time online searching for information. If you’re not tapping into that market in some way you are missing out on massive potential profits for your business.

Communicate Regularly

Not only does the website provide you with online presence it gives you a platform for collecting contact information and communicating with your consumers on a regular basis.

Even with all the criticism and spam complaints that you hear people talking about, the bottom line is most of us check our email on a daily basis and are more than willing to receive messages from businesses that provide us with quality information, special offers and discounts.

From a business owners standpoint this can be a real gold mine. Instead of spending money on costly print advertising, it’s much less-expensive to send customers special offers, discounts and information through email. Email marketing, when used effectively can help us promote, brand and build relationships with our consumers.

Brand Awareness

A website can be specifically designed to create and promote your business and brand image. Everything from the design, the content and consumer interaction on your webpages can be used to build a precise image of your company that you want the world to see. One way to think of it is like a dynamic billboard that is constantly interacting with its viewers.

Social Proof

It’s a proven fact that the majority of people make their purchasing decisions based on recommendations, whether they be from friends, family for online information. By including testimonials from happy customers on your website you can offer the social proof that prospective buyers need to influence their buying decision. Ratings and reviews are an excellent way to help people overcome their fear of making a first time purchase from your business online.

While it’s certainly possible to run a successful a local business without having any type of online presence the potential for growth can be far greater when you have a website and shouldn’t be ignored.

When it comes to Internet marketing, the question of how to find your target market is extremely important. Especially if you want to run a successful online campaign. This question surprises the majority of people when I ask it. You see, they assume that since the internet spans the entire globe that everyone on the planet is their market. However, believing that is a recipe for failure.

While it’s true that the Internet has the potential for reaching a large portion of the population, there is simply no way that you can market your business that will make it appealing to everyone on the planet, no matter how hard you try.

TIP: Figuring out your target market is the key to connecting with people and having them become customers.

First, you need to determine how big your potential market it is and how desperate they are to solve their particular problem, no matter how much it costs. A big market isn’t enough. For example, there are a lot of people looking for free stuff, but that doesn’t make them a good market, because they have a hard time parting with their money and that will make it harder to sell to them (though not impossible if you position your offer properly).

Another way to look at all of this is that your best bet is to sell to an already existing market. Sure, there is the rare product that is so novel that the market doesn’t exist, but trying to go that route is risky. When starting out it’s best to find an existing market, and then fill a need within that market.

That leads to the question of how to tell whether or not a market exists.

This is where it becomes important to know how to find your target market.

There are two simple ways that will get you on the right track:

Search engines

If enough people are searching for information on a topic then it’s a good sign that there is a market there. However, you also need to be careful about which keywords (the terms people enter into the search engine) you are gathering data on. Remember, you are looking for a “hungry” market, so give some thought as to what terms desperate people would be entering into the search engine.

There are thousands of magazines currently being published, and that’s an excellent sign that there is a large market interested in the topic. In effect, you re relying on the publisher’s research to tell you that there is an existing market for that topic. If you have an offer that can fit into any of those topics, then you can be confident that you are tapping into a good market.

These are two simple methods for how to find your target market, but they are only the beginning. Investing time up front researching the market will pay off in a big way in the future.

Keyword marketing is going to be one of the most important skills you will learn if you want to run successful Internet marketing campaign. As a business owner, no matter what type of business you have, your primary job will be to make sure that you have an online presence and that your website receives enough targeted traffic to help generate leads.

Since not everyone who comes to your website is going to make a purchase you’ll want to get as many visitors as possible. You’ll also want to ensure that your website is set up to convert your visitors into leads and customers.

How many visitors you will need in order to make as much money as you want really depends on several factors, such as how competitive your niche is, how well your website is laid out, how compelling your sales letter is, the price point of your product, etc.

After a short amount of time you will be able to pinpoint your conversion rates (the number of visitors who actually make a purchase from your site) and from that point on you can determine how much traffic you need to get every month.

In order to get the most out of all your keyword marketing efforts you should rely on several traffic methods. Most online marketing experts agree that you should have anywhere from 3 to 5 successful online traffic methods going at all times.

Now, one word of caution, don’t try to set up 3 – 5 methods of getting traffic all at the same time. If you do you will get overwhelmed. Instead focus on one method first, perfect it and then move on to find another method. Keep doing this until you have all the traffic you need to make all the sales you want to make.

Here are a few of the most common methods you can use for keyword marketing along with their pros and cons:

Article marketing

This is a process where you write (or hire someone to write) articles that are optimized with the keywords you’ve gotten for your niche. This method is free and easy to do, but on the downside, you will need a lot of articles sin circulation to give you any real traffic.

Search Engine Optimization

This method is all about getting the search engines to “see” your website.

By placing relevant, targeted keywords on your website in certain areas you will stand out to the search engines. This method is free and fairly easy in it’s simplest form, but it can get quite complicated if you want to go in depth.

Pay Per Click

This is the method where you place ads that will appear on the search results page. You’ve no doubt done a search and have seen the ads that appear at the top and down the side of the results page. These ads were paid for by other online marketers. As the name implies you will only pay if someone clicks on your ad. The downside to this method is that it involves a fairly complicated method of bidding on keywords.

The amount you may have to pay for a particular keyword can vary due to many factors such as the quality score your ad has been given by the search engines. Yes, if it sounds confusing it is, and since you will be paying while you are learning this method of keyword marketing is better used after you have taken the time to learn how to use it properly.

If you really want to succeed in today’s competitive market place, you need to make sure that you are using affective search engine optimization (SEO) techniques to help your business stand out in the crowd and stay ultra-competitive. While this may sound like a tall order, it doesn’t have to be a daunting task.

According to Wikipedia, SEO is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine’s “natural” or un-paid (“organic”) search results. In general, the higher ranked on the search results page, and more frequently a site appears in the search results, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine’s users.

*SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search, academic search, news search and industry specific search engines.

Before you begin using SEO techniques to increase your online presence you should take some time to at least understand the basics so that you can be sure that your SEO strategies will help your business grow.

These days, just having a website is not enough. You won’t be as successful if some type of optimization within your webpages because the search engines (like Google) won’t be able to find and index your site effectively. You need so much more these days just to get noticed by the search engines.

As we have discussed before, with more and more potential customers using the search engines to locate the products or services they want, it’s your job as the business owner to accommodate them with the design and functionality of your website.

So, how do you do this?

Use effective keywords

Finding effective keywords is the beginning of your search engine optimization journey to the top of the results pages. When they do their searches, your potential customers will usually only look at the top 5 results on the results page. If you are there, great, if not, you will not make a sale.

Use social media

The search engines are looking more and more at how popular companies are on the social media sites. They like this and if you are popular you will also improve your rankings.

Back linking

The more back links you have, the more visible you are and the more relevant you seem to the search engines. They like this also and will increase your rankings appropriately.

Title tags

Make sure that you include an original title tag on every page of your site, and make sure that it includes your keyword. Many people make the mistake of putting the name of their company in these titles but in general your company name will not get too many searches while your keywords will.

Internal linking

Don’t forget internal linking. When you use anchor text within your site, make sure that the linked text is a keyword or keyword phrase, and not something like “click here”.

Quality links

This is one of the more overlooked tips for search engine optimization. Most people think of link-building in terms of quantity. But the reality is that the quality of the incoming links are much important than the quantity. One simple link from a high-quality site can offer you much greater results than lots of poor quality links, which can actually hurt your ranking.

Effective communication

Broaden your way of communicating to include video, powerpoints, podcasts, news, press releases, social content and so forth. The more different ways you can communicate what you have to offer, the better you will look in the eyes of the search engine. If you were to choose just one other form of communication, let it be video. Video is extremely hot and growing in popularity every day.

Viral components

Make it easy for your visitors to increase your site’s ranking. Add what can be termed “viral components” to your web site or blog such as bookmarking, reviews, ratings, visitor comments, and sharing tools.

And last but not least, don’t underestimate the power of social marketing

It can be a great contributor to your overall SEO results, we will be talking more about that in another post.

There is no doubt that using SEO techniques can help you increase your presence online and drive more targeted traffic to your website so that your business can grow and your profits can increase.

As we well know every business needs a good marketing strategy, and that includes the realm of ecommerce as well. While it may be fairly easy for anyone to start running a business website online, the sad truth is that the vast majority of them fail miserably.

While there are many reasons that businesses fail online, it’s a safe bet to say that the successful ones all have one thing in common, they’ve implemented well thought out and effective ecommerce marketing strategy.

The best marketing strategies are those that are incorporated into the initial planning stages of the business. In other words, consider what your marketing strategy might be while you are figuring out what to sell, selecting a domain name, designing your site, and so on.

Marketing is much more than advertising; marketing permeates every aspect of your business and paints a picture of your company and your offer in the minds of your prospects. Don’t make the mistake of marketing only after everything else is up and running.

You need to have a firm idea of who your target market is before you can start marketing to them.

Who is your product for?

How old are they?

What is their education level, their income?

What are their hobbies and interests?

What do they identify with?

What problems do they have?

And the list goes on.

The more detailed your image of the ideal customer, the easier your marketing will be.

The next step in a good ecommerce marketing strategy is to determine where your customers are most likely to see your message and be receptive to it. You could just plaster a link to your site anywhere and everywhere that will allow you to do so, but if your target audience doesn’t go there, or if they perceive your ads as intrusive, then they won’t be inclined to follow those links back to your site.

For example, if they are likely to be watching music videos, you could put ads on video sites, but you would want to avoid any ads that interrupt the viewing process.

Knowing your ideal customer and how best to reach them is a good start, but you also need to market to them using their language. We aren’t referring to English, Chinese, or Norwegian, but rather using the terminology they are familiar with. Be careful that you don’t overdo it, and that you fully understand their vernacular, otherwise you run the risk of coming across as phony.

Once you have all of those things in place, you can decide which methods you want to be a part of your strategy. There are many options for online marketing, and there are also options that can fit into any budget. Again, your decision as to whether or not to use a certain method should be based on how your target market is likely to respond.

Now it’s just a matter of implementing everything and tracking the results. Test variations and make adjustments as needed. Following this blueprint for an ecommerce marketing strategy will lead you to success.

For anyone who plans to sell products or services to businesses and markets online should take the time to understand the difference between b2b internet marketing and selling directly to a consumer.

While some of the basic principles of marketing are the same, there are some differences that if not taken into consideration can sabotage your marketing efforts.

The good news is that in some ways, selling to businesses is easier than selling to consumers, and very often the profits are much better, especially in the beginning.

One of the biggest differences between b2b internet marketing and marketing to consumers (also called b2c marketing) is that you’re no longer trying to sell to a single person. While that may sound obvious, business purchasing isn’t simply a group of people looking at your product or service at the same time and then making a decision.

The question of whether to buy or not goes from one person to another, sometimes in a very long chain of command, and can take a lot of time (and convincing).

When you’re selling something to a consumer, you’re dealing with one set of eyes and one person to convince. An important key in marketing to consumers is repetition. Fact, most people won’t buy the first time, but once your offer has been put in front of them multiple times in an appealing way, they will be more likely to make a purchase.

With b2b internet marketing the same principle applies, but this favorable impression must last down a long line of people who will make the final decision. Getting the item or service in front of them many times is crucial with businesses, too.

Email marketing is one great way of keeping your products or services in front of them, but when b2b internet marketing with emails you have to be even more careful than when marketing to consumers. Many people who receive an email, particularly one they’ve agreed to receive, are going to be more concerned with the product or service offered, the discount, and what the item can do for them, than how professional and well-done the email is. This is less likely with a business.

Because the business may have its own b2b internet marketing plan, they’re going to expect a certain level of professionalism in any emails or correspondence you send them.

Misspellings, strange line breaks, broken images and anything else that screams “amateur” or “careless” is likely to ensure that your message goes no farther than your consumers junk e-mail box, so always take extra care with your email marketing plan.

Don’t just make them correct and properly formatted, make them dazzling and attractive as well. Your emails and correspondence need to look as good as anything coming from that company if you really want to impress.

If you sell to businesses, you already know your target market very well. Be sure that all of your b2b internet marketing efforts are professional and focus not on you, but how you can fill their companies’ needs, and you’ll get your products noticed.

If you have been struggling along with your internet marketing efforts, or if you just wish that you were doing better, then it may be time to look at how to improve your internet marketing strategy.

Even though you may feel like you aren’t getting anywhere, you’re actually off to a good start because you’re already looking for information on how get better results. Why does that matter? It shows that you are willing to admit that things could be better, and that puts you far ahead of anybody who would rather try to fix their problems by ignoring them.

Chances are that you’ve already created some type of marketing strategy for your business and committed to stick to it no matter what, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t modify it if it isn’t working as well as you would like. That being said, as you start improving your strategy, you should also include contingencies for making changes without scrapping the entire plan.

The first thing you need to do to improve your internet marketing strategy is figure out exactly where you are right now. This isn’t the time to make assumptions. You have to gather as much solid data as you can and be willing to look at it with complete honesty. If you aren’t able to gather enough meaningful data, then you have just discovered one way that you can make your marketing strategy better.

If you look carefully at your data you should be able to see some weak spots. Perhaps you aren’t getting enough traffic to your website, or maybe the traffic you are getting isn’t converting very well. On the other hand, maybe you are getting plenty of visitors that seem to convert, but then they abandon your shopping cart half-way through the purchasing process.

Once you discover your weak spots it’s time to make some changes. The trick, however, is not to just make changes, but to also have a way of tracking those changes. The reason this is important is that you need to know exactly which changes generate which results. If a change doesn’t work, then get rid of it. If a change does work, then keep it and use it as the new “control” for your next comparison.

Over time, all of these little improvements will add up to positive results. The most successful online businesses are constantly testing and tracking, and then making new changes. However, you have to be careful to not make too many changes at any one time. If you do too many, then you can’t be sure which changes led to your results. Make one or two changes at a time to make your tracking easier.

It will take an investment of time and resources to improve your internet marketing strategy, but it will be worthwhile once you see the positive impact on your bottom line.

Social media advertising is defined as: Using the social networks to promote products and/or services to the users of those networks.

It is also a great way to build and manage your customer base. You can post information relevant to your cause and let your followers know about upcoming discounts and coupons that are available.

Do you have a new product about to be released or launched?

Blast the information out to your customers through your social media advertising campaign. They will no doubt let you know what they think of your new product by making posts about it.

Keep up to date with how your customers are feeling by reading those posts and responding to their comments whether they be positive or negative.

Staying involved will increase your businesses reputation and make people trust you more and more as time goes on.

As a small business you may not have the budget to advertise on the social networks. I have heard that it can be quite expensive, not to mention time-consuming.

The big companies devote entire departments to this sort of thing and have the deep pockets to be able to afford to advertise here, you may not. But do not quote me, check it out for yourself first before making a decision.

Many small businesses could benefit from this type of advertising, if only to find out more about what their customers think about their product or service.

Like I said, it can be quite time-consuming and you will need to attend to some aspect of it every day, maybe even several times a day to have it be a success and work for you.

This type of marketing allows you and your business to create and nurture relationships with your potential and current customers. When they can “talk” to you and keep in touch just like they do with their family and friends they come to think that they know you and this is huge for your business.

They will feel like they have an inside track and if they hear of someone who needs a product that you offer you will get referrals as well. This is a lot like “word of mouth” advertising and can become “viral” if your product is in high demand by consumers.

This is also an incredible way to target your specific audience and stay abreast of industry news and information.

Keep in mind, though that this should not be your only vehicle for promoting your business. You must include the other forms of marketing as well. This way you will get a more rounded out marketing campaign.

In other words, do not keep all of your eggs in one basket. Diversify your marketing portfolio and you will more likely be the success you want to be in the shortest amount of time.

Social media advertising can definitely increase your online presence, especially now that the search engines are looking to it to increase rankings you can benefit that way as well if you treat it right.

Email marketing is one of the many ways available for any business website owner to increase traffic to their site. It is also one of the most effective ways to stay in touch with and build a relationship with your consumers.

By using this method, you will be able to increase your exposure with the people who visit your website. Most people will only visit your website once and never come back. This allows you to maintain some type of contact with them to build a “relationship” with them.

The subject of your emails should be short and sweet. You want the subject line to catch their eye and pique their curiosity so they open your email. One of the best ways to do this is to ask a question.

Some email services and programs will not display the entire subject line if it is too long. Keep this in mind when writing your subject line. Your readers will only scan the subject lines when they log into their email account, if your subject does not appeal to them and sound interesting they will delete your email without even opening it.

Some email services and programs will not display the entire subject line if it is too long. Keep this in mind when writing your subject line. Your readers will only scan the subject lines when they log into their email account, if your subject does not appeal to them and sound interesting they will delete your email without even opening it.

You no doubt have many ways to promote your product or service and some may seem more important than others but, in reality, they are all bringing you in some form of traffic and you are making sales. This leg of your promotional campaign is equally important.

Never let up on your email campaign. Keep information as up-to-date as possible and make changes when needed. It is easy to fall into complacency when you think you have gotten everything out of your email campaign but if you treat it this way you could be losing customers hand over fist.

Make the emails you send look like your site. People will begin to associate a type of brand awareness with your emails if you have your product or service logo or other distinguishing characteristics, like the same colors you have on your site.

Customers will more likely buy from someone they know. With repeated exposure to you and your company through your campaign, they will begin to feel as if they have a relationship with you and when they need to buy, they will come to you first.

Obviously, the ultimate goal here is to make money by selling your product or service. Therefore, you should try to tailor each message to that end. Each message should be interesting and informative. Try to keep in mind how your customers think and what kind of information they would be interested in receiving from you.

Finding the right combination of what works could take some trial and error. To find what works and what doesn’t, make small changes to the wording or the graphics that you use so you ultimately end up with the “perfect” message for your product or service.

Sometimes the images you want to use will not display in your message. One way around this is to use descriptive alt tags for them and make sure you use a nice easily readable font for the most important information.

Video marketing is a promotional strategy used by companies big and small to promote products and services by using short, attractive, and educational videos.

That is a great definition but, what you need to keep in mind is that although most people are visual beings and will see something they want and then buy it, if the video is not well done then they will run screaming the other way.

Your best bet is to also include a text version of the description of your product or service for those who do not want to watch a video.

To get the best out of your video marketing campaign there are some aspects you can take into account to ensure your video is the best it can be:

Sound quality

The use of a good microphone is paramount. You want your customers to be able to hear what you have to say. Also, speak slowly and clearly and make sure there is no back ground noise. Nothing is more distracting than background noise.

Picture quality

Use a quality camera or screen capture video software. This allows you to capture what is right on your own computer screen and turn it into a movie. (Great for how-to videos)

Information quality

Do not just try to make your video off the cuff, write up a script beforehand and practice it until you have it down pat. Sound like the expert you are. If you sound unsure of yourself your viewers will become unsure of you as well and you will lose sales because of it.

Google has ways of figuring out how much time a potential customer spends on your web site. If you have a video on your site it is expected that if your potential customer is looking at the video on your site they will have to stay there for the length of the video.

If your other forms of SEO are on target and you are currently ranking well on the search engine results pages but your video stinks then your visitors will not be happy with the information provided and they will leave your site immediately to find better information elsewhere.

This is called a bounce rate and if Google picks up on this you will ultimately lose your higher ranking.

There are a couple of ways to find out whether or not you video is a good one. One way is to post it on YouTube and see how many hits you get and the other way is have a section on your web site for people to leave comments.

If you get favorable comments and a lot of hits you can be sure that your video is a success and if not then you know what changes need to be made because of the comments left for you.

Video marketing could go either way for you. It all depends on the three aspects we outlined above and how your potential customers, and Google, perceive your production. Make it worth your while and make it as professional as you can.

Pay Per Click (PPC) is an effective type of sponsored online advertising that is used on a wide range of websites, including search engines, where the advertiser only pays if a web user clicks on their ad.

PPC is used as one more way to drive traffic to your site. If you have the budget for it, it makes sense to use it to its full advantage. Sometimes it can be very cost effective depending on the keywords you choose.

That’s really how it works. You choose keywords you think searchers will type in the search bar on the search engines, then you write an ad around that keyword.

When someone does type in that specific keyword, they will see your ad pop up on the left or right hand side of the results page (depending on the search engine they are using) and then it is up to them if they choose to click on it. If they do, you pay the amount set forth for that keyword.

When you set this all up you will need to fund your account in advance. Sometimes, if you are new to this, you can get some free money from the program you are using just to try it out.

This money will not go far and you may also have to put some of your own money in to activate your free cash.

PPC ads can prove very beneficial to all involved. You, as the advertiser, get the exposure you need to expand your business and the searcher gets immediate results and does not have to wander all over the Internet trying to find what they are looking for.

You can find these types of ads on the results pages under “Sponsored Ads” or “Sponsored Links”. These “titles” make it easier for them to be noticed.

Sometimes the results pages can be so loaded down with text and other things that if they were not categorized like this they may never be found.

It does not matter if you are a huge company with deep pockets or a small start-up with an equally small budget. If you do this right you can be on the same level as the big boys and get to your target audience with ease.

All you have to do is choose the right keywords and have the budget to fund your account, not to mention be quite Internet literate. If you know what you are doing you can outfox anyone.

The rates that get charged all have to do with how popular the keywords, or keyword phrases (long-tailed keywords) are that you chose to begin with. More popular the keyword the higher the price tag.

For instance, the keyword “weight loss” will cost more per click than, say, the keyword “apple pie”.

The two main pay per click services are Google AdWords and Microsoft adCenter. There are many others out there but instead of looking for some obscure program that may or may not work for you, it would be your best bet to just use one of these two.
